Chapter 7 - The Evidence of Brutality

For the next two hours, the cabin functioned like a forward operating medical command post. While Sarah sipped warm broth and slowly regained the warmth in her hands, Marcus and I conducted a meticulous, forensic-grade documentation of her physical condition. We used color-coded measurement scales next to every bruise, photographing the deep purple marks on her ribs where Julian had kicked her weeks prior, the fresh contusions on her jaw, and the defensive scrapes along her forearms from where she had tried to shield her face.
As the camera clicked softly in the quiet room, Sarah began to talk, her voice faint and hesitant at first, but gaining strength as the toxic dam of secrecy finally broke inside her. She told us everything—details that made my professional discipline strain against my desire to drive back to the estate and finish Julian with my bare hands.
"It started six months after the wedding," Sarah whispered, staring into the flames of the fireplace while I gently cleaned the laceration on her lower lip with antiseptic wipes. "He made me close my personal bank account and merge my savings into a corporate trust he controlled. Whenever I wanted to buy groceries or get coffee with a friend, I had to submit a request through his personal assistant."
"Classic financial isolation," Marcus muttered from across the table, his fingers flying across the backlit keyboard of his encrypted tactical laptop as he began running preliminary background traces on Julian’s corporate entities. "He cut off her financial independence so she couldn't afford to hire a lawyer or book a hotel room if she tried to leave."

"Then came the tracking," Sarah continued, tears spilling silently down her bruised cheeks. "He put spyware on my phone and GPS trackers in my car. If I stayed at the grocery store ten minutes longer than usual, he would call me screaming, accusing me of having an affair. When I tried to tell him I wanted to see you for Thanksgiving today, he lost his temper. He said my family was pathetic, that you were just a washed-up soldier who couldn't understand high-level success. When I stood up to him and said I was leaving anyway... he hit me with the bourbon bottle."
I laid the antiseptic wipe down, taking her trembling hands in both of mine, squeezing them with unwavering strength. "You are never going back to that fortress, Sarah. We are going to strip him of his money, his reputation, and his freedom. By the time we are done, he won't have a single place left to hide."
