Chapter 13 - The Digital Strike

Inside the grand ballroom of the Hyatt, Julian raised his glass for a ceremonial toast, his polished smile gleaming under the crystal chandeliers. "To Sarah," he proclaimed to the VIP guests. "May she find her way out of the darkness and back into the light."

Before the audience could raise their champagne glasses, the massive twelve-foot LED screens flanking the stage flickered violently. The serene, high-definition slide of Julian and Sarah posing on a beach vanished, replaced instantly by a stark, high-resolution forensic photograph of Sarah’s bruised, bleeding face taken inside our safehouse cabin.

A collective gasp of shock rippled through the ballroom. People lowered their glasses, staring up at the screens in utter confusion. Julian spun around, his face turning pale as he frantically waved at the audiovisual control booth in the back of the room.

"Cut the feed!" Julian yelled into the microphone, his composed demeanor instantly cracking. "Turn those screens off right now! It’s a technical malfunction!"

Instead of going black, the sound system of the entire ballroom roared to life, overriding his microphone completely. It wasn't music playing; it was the crystal-clear audio recording Sarah had captured from the air vent just three weeks prior.

"You stupid, pathetic little bitch," Julian’s enraged voice boomed through the ballroom’s concert-grade speakers, echoing off the gilded walls with horrifying clarity. "You think anyone would ever believe you over me? I own the police chief in this town! I own the judges! If you ever try to leave this house, I will forge enough psychiatric documents to have you locked in a state asylum for the rest of your natural life! Now shut up and sign that loan guaranty before I break your other wrist!"

The ballroom descended into absolute pandemonium. Women screamed, prominent politicians frantically pushed their chairs back and rushed toward the exits to avoid being associated with the broadcast, and news cameras spun away from the stage to capture the horrific audio echoing across the crowd.

Julian stood frozen behind the podium, his mouth opening and closing like a suffocating fish as the photographs on the screens shifted to show the forged financial documents from Sterling Holdings LLC, complete with his digital signature trail. His philanthropic empire had just been vaporized in less than sixty seconds.
