Chapter 8 - Midnight In The Penthouse

Instead of the corporate office, Julian ordered the driver to take them directly to his private penthouse suite overlooking Central Park.

The penthouse was a two-story sanctuary of dark glass, leather, and modern art, but neither of them paid attention to the luxury as they crashed into his home study.

Elena kicked off her high heels, sinking her bare feet into the Persian rug as she opened Julian’s personal encrypted laptop on the desk.

For two hours, they worked side by side in the dim light of the study, tracing IP addresses and server access logs from the corporate mainframe.

Julian stood behind her chair, one hand resting on the back of her seat, his breath brushing the crown of her hair as she typed with furious precision.

“There,” Elena whispered triumphantly, pointing a manicured finger at a string of encrypted transactions timed at 3:00 AM the previous night.

“Marcus downloaded the Kensington valuation files using Chloe’s public relations security badge to cover his digital footprint,” she explained, turning her head to look up at him.

She was so close to Julian that her lips were only inches from his jawline, the electric warmth between them suddenly overwhelming the cold glow of the screen.

Julian looked down at the data, but his eyes quickly drifted to Elena’s mouth, his chest rising and falling with a heavy, ragged breath.

“You saved my company again, Elena,” he murmured, his hand moving from the chair back to frame her jaw, his thumb tracing her cheekbone.

“I was protecting my work, Julian,” she whispered, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as she leaned into his touch.

“Stop lying to me,” he said softly, his midnight-blue eyes burning with an intensity that made her dizzy. “And stop hiding from me.”

He slowly lowered his head, giving her every opportunity to pull away, but Elena didn't move an inch.

When his lips finally met hers, the explosive chemistry they had suppressed for two years shattered completely.

It wasn't a gentle kiss; it was hungry, demanding, and filled with the pent-up frustration of countless silent mornings and stolen glances through frosted glass.

Elena tangled her fingers into his thick, dark hair, pulling him closer as the corporate armor they both wore dissolved into nothing.
