Chapter 17 - The Empire Grows
Two years after their wedding, Vance Strategic Consulting and Sterling Enterprises officially merged to form the largest financial conglomerate in North America: Sterling-Vance Global.
Elena sat at the head of the massive boardroom table on the top floor of their new headquarters, conducting the annual international stakeholders meeting.
She was seven months pregnant with their first child, glowing with health and authority in a tailored cream maternity suit.
Julian sat directly to her right, not as her superior, but as her co-chair, watching her command the room of fifty global executives with absolute mastery.
“Our European expansion is outperforming Q3 projections by eighteen percent,” Elena announced, tapping her tablet to display the flawless financial models on the screens.
“We are allocating ten percent of our surplus liquidity into clean-energy development in developing nations, effective next month.”
An older traditional investor from London raised his hand, looking slightly skeptical about the massive philanthropic allocation.
“Mrs. Sterling-Vance, is it wise to divert such capital away from shareholder dividends during a market transition?”
Before Julian could defend his wife, Elena smiled her signature cool, analytical smile and fixed the investor with her piercing hazel eyes.
“Mr. Henderson, if you look at page four of your briefing, you will see that our sustainable energy subsidies have already reduced our global tax liability by twenty-two percent,” she explained smoothly.
“We aren't just saving the planet, sir; we are increasing your net shareholder value by four dollars a share.”
The room erupted into appreciative murmurs and applause as Mr. Henderson nodded respectfully, completely disarmed by her brilliant financial strategy.
Julian reached under the mahogany table, resting his large, warm hand gently over Elena’s rounded belly, feeling a strong kick from their unborn son.
He leaned over, whispering against her ear under the cover of the applause.

“He is going to inherit his father’s determination, Julian,” Elena whispered back, her hand covering his over her stomach. “And together, they are going to be unstoppable.”
