Chapter 15 - The Proposal

Julian pulled a small, square velvet box from his pocket, holding it between them in the quiet, sunlit boardroom where she had once sat as an invisible assistant.
Elena’s breath caught in her throat, her hands flying to cover her mouth as Julian Sterling—the most ruthless billionaire on Wall Street—slowly dropped to one knee before her.
“Two years ago, you sat in the corner of this room in a shapeless cardigan, hiding the most brilliant mind and the most beautiful soul I have ever known,” Julian said, his voice trembling slightly with raw emotion.
“You saved my company, you humbled my pride, and you taught me that real power isn't about control—it is about standing beside someone who makes you better.”
He flipped the velvet lid open, revealing a breathtaking four-carat emerald-cut diamond framed by delicate platinum filigree that caught the sunlight like fire.
“I don't want an employee, Elena, and I don't just want a partner in the market,” he said, looking up into her tear-filled hazel eyes.
“I want you as my wife, my equal, and the heart of my life for the rest of my days. Will you marry me, mi amor?”
A tear escaped Elena’s eye, tracing a warm path down her cheek as she looked at the man who had seen through her armor and loved the warrior underneath.
“Yes,” she whispered, her voice cracking with overwhelming joy as she reached out to him. “Yes, Julian, absolutely yes!”
Julian stood up in a flash, sliding the magnificent diamond onto her left ring finger before lifting her completely off the floor into a spinning embrace.
He kissed her with all the passion and intensity of a man who had finally found his missing half, their laughter echoing off the glass walls of the fiftieth floor.
When he finally set her back down on her feet, she admired the heavy, brilliant stone glittering against her warm olive skin.
“It seems you finally figured out how to secure a permanent contract, Mr. Sterling,” she teased softly, resting her forehead against his chin.

“I am the best negotiator in the city, Mrs. Sterling-to-be,” he purred happily against her lips, wrapping his arms securely around her waist.
“Now let's go home and celebrate your two-billion-dollar victory properly.”
