Chapter 18 - The Shadow From The Past

Just when their life seemed completely untouched by storm clouds, a sudden threat emerged from the shadows of Elena’s forgotten past.
A sleazy tabloid reporter named Richard Vance—a distant uncle who had abandoned Elena’s family during their deepest poverty—surfaced with a blackmail attempt.
He contacted corporate security, claiming he had "scandalous diaries" from Elena’s youth that fabricated stories of corporate fraud to ruin Sterling-Vance Global's stock.
He demanded ten million dollars in silence money, threatening to release the fabricated documents to the Wall Street Journal before the opening bell on Monday.
Julian was furious when he read the blackmail demand in their penthouse study, pacing the floor with his jaw clenched in that familiar stress tell.
“I will destroy him,” Julian growled, pulling out his phone to call his private security contractors and legal attack dogs. “I will bury him so deep in lawsuits he won't see daylight.”
“No, Julian, put the phone down,” Elena said calmly, sitting on the leather sofa with a cup of herbal tea resting on her pregnant belly.
Julian stopped pacing, looking at her in shock as she took a serene sip of her tea without a single trace of anxiety on her face.
“Elena, this could cause a temporary dip in our stock value during the Tokyo merger! We have to silence him!”
“We don't pay blackmailers, Julian, and we certainly don't hide from them,” Elena said, setting her teacup down and standing up with graceful dignity.
“My uncle is a desperate gambler who doesn't understand digital forensics or corporate transparency laws.”
She walked over to her husband, taking his phone from his hand and replacing it with her own tablet displaying a pre-drafted press release.
“I already sent all of my authentic childhood records, financial struggles, and his extortion emails directly to the Wall Street Journal editor an hour ago,” she revealed calmly.
Julian’s eyes widened as he read the brilliant, transparent PR strategy that completely disarmed the blackmailer by controlling the narrative first.

“You turned his own extortion attempt into a human-interest piece about overcoming poverty to build a billionaire empire,” Julian whispered in absolute awe.
“I told you, Julian,” Elena smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Unnoticed women survive, but fearless women conquer.”
