Chapter 14 - The Rival Bid

Six months after launching Vance Strategic Consulting, Elena found herself sitting across from Julian in the highest-stakes boardroom negotiation in New York history.

Both of their firms were bidding for the acquisition of a revolutionary clean-energy tech giant worth over two billion dollars.

Elena sat at the head of her own team, wearing a stunning white power suit, her chestnut hair falling in sleek sheets around her shoulders.

Julian sat opposite her, wearing his signature charcoal suit, his midnight-blue eyes gleaming with competitive fire and undeniable pride.

“Your valuation is impressive, Ms. Vance,” Julian said smoothly, leaning back in his leather chair and twirling a platinum pen between his fingers.

“However, Sterling Enterprises is prepared to offer an additional fifty million in liquidity to close the deal by midnight.”

Elena didn't flinch; she leaned forward, resting her elbows on the glass table, fixing her former boss with a knowing smirk.

“Liquidity is fine, Mr. Sterling, but my firm has already secured regulatory pre-approval from the European Union this morning,” she countered effortlessly.

“If they sign with you, they wait six months for compliance; if they sign with me, they begin global operations on Monday.”

The CEO of the tech firm looked between the two titans of industry, completely mesmerized by the brilliant tennis match of high finance playing out before him.

After thirty minutes of intense debate, the tech CEO signed his name on the dotted line of Elena’s contract, handing her the biggest deal of the fiscal year.

As the room cleared out, Julian remained in his chair, watching Elena pack her tablet into her scuffed canvas satchel—the one piece of her old life she still carried for luck.

“You beat me, Elena,” Julian said softly, standing up and walking around the long table until he was standing directly in front of her.

“I told you that you couldn't afford me, Julian,” she teased, zipping her satchel and looking up at him with sparkling hazel eyes.

Julian reached out, his hands sliding around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest despite the glass walls surrounding them.

“I lose two billion dollars, and I have never been happier in my entire life,” he murmured, lowering his head to press a deep, lingering kiss against her lips.

When they broke apart, Julian reached into his suit jacket, his eyes turning unusually serious and intense.

“You won the corporate merger today, Ms. Vance,” he whispered softly. “Now it is my turn to negotiate a permanent partnership.”
