Chapter 8 - Turning On Each Other

Three months passed as I slowly rehabilitated my broken body.

During that time, the pressure inside the county jail broke my husband and his mother.

Without their immense wealth to protect them, they quickly turned into terrified rats.

The District Attorney offered Marcus a plea deal if he testified against his mother.

Marcus, being the ultimate coward, accepted it without a second thought.

He told the prosecutors that the entire fraud scheme and the physical attack were Evelyn's ideas.

But Evelyn was equally vicious.

When she found out her son had betrayed her, she requested her own meeting with the DA.

Evelyn handed over decades of Marcus’s hidden financial crimes.

She exposed his embezzlement from innocent clients, his tax evasion, and his offshore shell companies.

They completely destroyed each other from separate jail cells.

Victoria visited my newly restored estate to deliver the incredible news.

“They are tearing each other apart,” Victoria laughed over a cup of tea.

“The prosecution doesn't even have to work hard for a conviction anymore.”

I looked out over the beautiful gardens of my grandmother's property.

“They built their entire lives on greed and betrayal,” I noted softly.

“It is only fitting that betrayal is what finally destroys them.”

I felt a profound sense of peace wash over my healing bones.

The nightmare was ending, and a beautiful new chapter was beginning.
