Chapter 3 - The Undeniable Truth

The color drained entirely from Marcus’s face.
Evelyn let out a sharp squeak of panic, her grip tightening on her designer tote bag.
“That is a lie!” Marcus shouted, stepping toward me again.
“That is hospital property, and she stole it!”
Sergeant Miller held up a stern hand, forcing Marcus to freeze in his tracks.
“Arthur, is this true?” Miller asked the security chief.
Arthur nodded slowly, pulling a portable tablet from his utility belt.
“Yes, Sergeant,” Arthur confirmed.
“The offline backup recorded the entire incident from the pharmacy angle.”
Arthur took the flash drive from my hand and plugged it directly into his tablet.
Marcus looked around wildly, searching for an escape route that did not exist.
The officers crowded around the small screen as Arthur pressed play.
The video quality was crystal clear.
It showed Evelyn aggressively yanking the IV tube from my arm.
It showed her violently shoving both of her hands into my chest.
And it showed me tumbling backward down the marble staircase while Evelyn watched with a cold stare.
A collective gasp echoed through the crowded atrium as the onlookers watched the footage.
The video then showed Marcus actively blocking the nurses from rushing to my aid.
Sergeant Miller’s expression hardened into pure, professional fury.
He turned to Marcus, unsnapping the handcuffs from his belt.

“Delusional, huh?” Miller asked sarcastically.
“Turn around and put your hands behind your back.”
