Chapter 6 - The Steel Bracelets

The next morning, the scandal erupted across every television channel and social media platform.

The security footage of Evelyn pushing me was played on an endless loop.

The public was absolutely outraged by their blatant cruelty.

I watched the morning news from my hospital bed, feeling a fierce sense of vindication.

The anchor announced that Marcus and Evelyn were scheduled for a bail hearing that afternoon.

I called my lawyer, a ruthless attorney named Victoria Vance.

“Victoria, I want to be in that courtroom today,” I demanded.

“You just suffered major trauma,” Victoria warned me.

“I don't care if you have to wheel me in on a stretcher,” I insisted.

“I am going to look them in the eyes when the judge denies their bail.”

Victoria arranged for a medical transport, and Clara insisted on pushing my wheelchair.

When we rolled into the crowded courtroom, the silence was deafening.

Marcus and Evelyn sat at the defense table, wearing bright orange county jail jumpsuits.

The arrogance was completely wiped from their faces.

Evelyn’s perfectly styled hair was a tangled mess, and Marcus looked completely exhausted.

When Marcus saw me in the wheelchair, wrapped in bandages, he looked away in shame.

The judge slammed his gavel, bringing the room to order.

He looked down at the defense table with absolute disgust.
