Chapter 8 - Setting the Bait

David arrived at the restaurant first, wearing a crisp suit and a hidden wire under his shirt.

Two undercover detectives were sitting at the bar outside the private dining room.

Samantha and Rachel walked in, looking incredibly smug and victorious.

“I see you finally came to your senses, David,” Samantha smirked, taking a seat.

“Just give me the money, David, and we’ll disappear,” Rachel added greedily.

David looked at both of them with feigned desperation.

“If I give you the two million, you promise to drop the tabloid story?” David asked clearly.

“We promise,” Samantha said.

“And you have to drop the criminal charges against me for hitting the brats.”

The detectives listening in the van outside high-fived each other.

She had just confessed to the assault on a police wire.

“I can’t believe you hit my children,” David said, pushing for more.

“They deserved it, they were annoying,” Samantha laughed cruelly.

“Now, are you going to sign the wire transfer or do I ruin your life tomorrow?”

David reached into his jacket pocket.

“I think I’m done negotiating,” David said, his voice dropping to a terrifying calm.
