Chapter 5 - Shadows of the Past

While the police built their case, David hired an elite private investigator.
He needed to know exactly who he had almost married.
The PI, a gruff former detective named Miller, called David in for a meeting.
“Your fiancée is a ghost, Mr. Vance,” Miller said, tossing a thick file onto the desk.
“Her real name isn’t even Samantha; it’s Sandra Jenkins.”
David stared at the documents in absolute shock.
“She has a string of aliases and two previous marriages,” Miller continued.
“Both men were wealthy, both ended up with ruined reputations, and both paid her off to leave.”
“She’s a professional grifter,” David realized, feeling sick to his stomach.
“Worse than that,” Miller said grimly.
“In her first marriage, there were allegations of abuse against her stepson, but charges were dropped mysteriously.”
David’s blood boiled with a fiery, unquenchable rage.
He had let a dangerous, predatory criminal into his home.
“I don’t want her just to go away, Miller,” David said coldly.
“I want her in a prison cell for a very long time.”

Miller nodded slowly.
“Then we need to set a trap, because she’s currently trying to flee the state.”
