Chapter 1 - The Eviction

David felt the warmth drain entirely from his body.
He stared at the woman he had almost made his wife.
Samantha’s face had shifted from rage to a panicked, calculating mask.
She opened her mouth to speak, but David held up a shaking hand.
“Do not say a single word,” he growled.
He stood up slowly, positioning himself like a shield between his children and the monster in his home.
“David, you have to understand, they were throwing things,” Samantha pleaded, her voice suddenly sweet and fragile.
“I said shut your mouth!” David roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.
Chloe flinched, and David immediately softened his posture, reaching back to squeeze her small hand.
“You have exactly two minutes to pack whatever fits in a single bag and get out of my house,” David said with lethal calm.
Samantha scoffed, crossing her arms defensively.
“You can’t be serious, we are getting married in three weeks.”
“The wedding is off,” he stated coldly.
“If you are not out of that door in two minutes, I am calling the police and pressing charges for child abuse.”
Samantha’s eyes widened, realizing he was completely serious.
She spun on her heels and marched up the stairs, muttering curses under her breath.
David knelt back down, pulling Leo and Chloe into a tight, protective embrace.
“I am so sorry, my sweet angels,” he whispered into their hair.
“She will never, ever hurt you again, I promise you that.”
He heard the heavy footsteps coming back down the stairs.
Samantha dragged a designer suitcase across the marble floor.
She paused at the door, turning to glare at the children.

“You’ll regret this, David, you and your little brats,” she spat.
The heavy oak door slammed shut behind her, leaving a chilling silence in its wake.
