Chapter 7 - The Extortion Demand

The demand letter arrived at David’s office on a rainy Tuesday morning.

It outlined a clear, illegal threat: pay two million dollars, or the tabloid story runs tomorrow.

Marcus, the lawyer, read it and shook his head.

“This is textbook extortion, David,” Marcus said.

“It’s a federal crime.”

“Set up a meeting with them,” David instructed calmly.

“Tell them I am terrified and I am willing to negotiate the payoff.”

Marcus raised an eyebrow.

“We are involving the authorities, right?”

“Of course,” David replied.

“The police are going to love this.”

David spent the evening playing board games with Chloe and Leo.

The kids were slowly returning to their happy, energetic selves.

Every time David looked at them, his resolve hardened into diamond.

He was going to protect his family, and he was going to destroy the woman who hurt them.

The meeting was scheduled for the next night at a private room in a high-end restaurant.
