Chapter 9 - The Eviction

The judge at their bail hearing was notorious for hating white-collar criminals.

Marcus made sure to heavily highlight the elder abuse aspect of the case.

When the judge heard they left an 81-year-old woman in sub-zero temperatures, he was furious.

He revoked their bail immediately, labeling them a flight risk and a danger to the victim.

My parents were sent to the county jail to await trial, stripped of their designer clothes.

The jail phone system recorded every single panicked call they made to their remaining friends.

Not a single person in their country club circle was willing to help them.

They had burned every bridge with their arrogance and their constant need to feel superior.

I visited my parents' empty mansion with Marcus and a team of movers.

Nana had legally evicted them from the property that she technically owned.

We packed up their expensive art, their designer clothes, and their luxury furniture into storage.

We changed the locks, set the alarm, and put a massive "For Sale" sign on the front lawn.

When they finally got out of jail, they would have absolutely nowhere to go.

I walked through my childhood home, feeling no nostalgia, only a fierce sense of victory.

The ghosts of their emotional abuse were finally being evicted right alongside them.
