Chapter 4 - Stripped of Power

The repo men arrived at my parents' house just before dinner time.
My father tried to physically block the tow truck from hooking up his precious luxury SUV.
The local police had to be called to physically remove him from the driveway.
I listened to the audio recording later, savoring the sound of my mother screaming about her social status.
They were the laughingstock of their wealthy, gated community within an hour.
With no cars and no money, they were effectively trapped in their massive, empty house.
My father finally tried calling my office line, bypassing my blocked personal cell phone.
My assistant, who was fully briefed on the situation, calmly informed him I was unavailable.
He threatened to sue my firm, which made my senior partners laugh out loud in the breakroom.
Nana was sitting in my living room, knitting a sweater and watching a baking show.
I didn't tell her about the towed cars or the police visit just yet.
I wanted her to heal in peace without the toxicity of her children polluting her mind.
Marcus called to inform me that my parents had tried to hire a high-profile defense attorney.
The attorney ran a credit check, saw the massive asset freeze, and laughed them out of his office.

They were out of options, out of allies, and completely out of time.
The real pressure was only just beginning.
