Chapter 7 - The Final Audacity

This brings us to day ten, the climax of their sheer, unadulterated audacity.

They managed to rent a beat-up sedan and drove straight to my neighborhood.

I saw them on the security cameras long before they even reached my front porch.

They began pounding on my reinforced glass windows, shrieking like cornered animals.

“Let us in right now, Clara!” my mother screamed, her makeup running down her face.

My father was kicking the heavy oak door, leaving scuff marks on the expensive wood.

Nana sat calmly in her recliner, not even flinching at the loud bangs echoing through the house.

She had finally realized that they held no power over her anymore.

I walked to the front door, unlocked the inner panel, and spoke through the intercom system.

I informed them that they were violating the restraining order for a second time.

My father screamed that I had brainwashed his mother and stolen his rightful inheritance.

I laughed directly into the microphone, a sharp, metallic sound that echoed on the porch.

I told him that he had no inheritance, only a pending prison sentence.

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder with every passing second.

I had hit the silent panic button the moment their car entered my driveway.

They thought abandoning her was the end of it, but they were dead wrong.
