Chapter 9 - The Federal Raid

The audio leak was the kill shot.
The next morning, I was sitting on my patio, drinking tea and watching the sun rise, when David called.
"Turn on the news," he said, his voice breathless. "Now."
I walked into the living room and flicked on the television. A helicopter was hovering over Julian's lavish suburban home. Below, on the manicured lawn, a half-dozen FBI agents in tactical gear were hauling boxes out of his front door.
Julian, dressed in a bathrobe, was being escorted down his driveway in handcuffs. His pregnant fiancée, Chloe, stood on the porch in tears, screaming at the agents.
"Wire fraud, extortion, and tax evasion," David said through the phone. "The feds didn't even need us to push. Once that audio leaked, the IRS realized they had been defrauded out of millions. Julian is looking at a decade in federal prison."
I watched my brother's face on the screen. He looked terrified. The arrogant smirk was entirely gone. He was finally realizing that there was no safety net left. The people he usually paid to make his problems go away had abandoned him the moment his accounts were frozen.

"What about my parents?" I asked.
"The feds are at their house too. They aren't arresting them yet, but they are seizing everything pending the investigation."
