Chapter 7 - The Smear Campaign

Julian was a cornered rat, and rats fight dirty.
By the end of the week, Julian took to social media and local news outlets. He painted a tragic picture of a mentally unstable widow who was aggressively hoarding wealth and destroying her supportive family in her grief. He claimed I had manipulated Thomas's will and was attempting to bankrupt my own parents out of spite.
"She needs help," Julian told a reporter on a local morning broadcast, looking solemn and concerned. "We just want to make sure my brother-in-law's legacy is protected. We love Elena, but she is out of her mind."
David walked into my office, turning off the TV. "He's getting traction, Elena. The board is getting nervous about the PR fallout. We need to respond."
I smiled, pulling the encrypted flash drive out of my pocket. "Let him talk. He's digging his own grave. He claims he wants to protect Thomas's legacy? Let's show the world exactly how he treated Thomas."

I uploaded an audio file from the flash drive and forwarded it to the very same news station Julian had just spoken to, copying every major tech blog and financial news outlet in the state.
"Watch this," I whispered to David.
