Chapter 4 - The Ambush

The moment my family touched down, they didn't go home to shower or rest. They came straight to my house.
I watched them through the security cameras. Julian was red-faced, pounding on my oak front door. My mother stood behind him, looking disheveled and furious in her wrinkled resort wear, her designer luggage sitting on my wet porch.
"Elena! Open this door right now!" Julian screamed, rattling the doorknob. "You have no right to touch those accounts! That money belongs to this family!"
I pressed the intercom button. "You are trespassing on private property. You have exactly two minutes to leave before the police arrive."
"Don't you dare play games with me, Elena!" my mother yelled into the camera. "Thomas is dead! We are your family! You need us to manage the estate. You don't know what you're doing!"
"I know exactly what I am doing," I said smoothly. "I'm cutting out a cancer. Look at your phones. I just sent you a PDF."
I watched on the monitor as Julian angrily pulled out his phone. His eyes scanned the document—a notice of default on their primary mortgage, signed and executed by our firm's legal department.

Julian looked up at the camera, all the color draining from his face. "Elena... what did you do?"
"I'm calling in your debts, Julian. All of them. Get off my porch."
