Chapter 12 - The Fiancée Flees

By the end of the month, the Vance family empire was reduced to ash.
I received a tearful phone call from Chloe, Julian's fiancée. She had hired an auditor to look at Julian's personal accounts and discovered the horrifying truth: Julian had secretly drained her trust fund to try and cover his tracks before the FBI raid.
"He stole from me, Elena," Chloe sobbed over the phone. "He stole from his own unborn child to try and save himself."
"I know," I said gently. "Julian only loves Julian."
"I packed my bags," she confessed. "I'm moving back to New York with my parents. I called off the wedding. I can't let my baby grow up around that kind of evil."
"You're making the right choice, Chloe. Protect your child."
