Chapter 5 - The Loyal Bulldog

Friday was approaching rapidly. Elena’s private ambulance was booked. They needed outside help, and they needed it now.

Using the alphabet board, Alexander spelled out a name: H-A-R-R-I-S-O-N.

"Harrison?" Dr. Evans asked. "Who is Harrison?"

"Harrison Cole," Rosa read from a quick Google search on her phone. "He was the chief legal counsel for Vance Technologies. But... he was fired by your wife three years ago."

Alexander blinked twice. He rasped, "Call... him."

Rosa used a payphone in the hospital lobby to call Harrison Cole's private office. At first, the secretary tried to brush her off, but when Rosa played a five-second audio clip of Alexander’s raspy voice saying, "Harrison, it's Alex," the line went dead silent.

Within an hour, a towering man in a crumpled trench coat arrived at the hospital’s loading dock. Harrison Cole had spent three years drinking away the guilt of failing his best friend. Now, standing in Room 518, seeing Alexander’s eyes tracking him, the old bulldog lawyer wept.

"They're trying to move him tomorrow," Dr. Evans warned.

"Not if I freeze the entire proxy," Harrison growled, wiping his eyes. "Alex, buddy, we need proof of their intent. Financial or criminal. Without it, she's still your legal wife."

Rosa silently reached into her apron pocket and handed Harrison her phone. "I recorded Marcus in the stairwell."

Harrison listened to the recording of the assassination plot. A terrifying, predatory smile spread across the lawyer's face. "Oh, we are going to burn them alive."
