Chapter 10 - The Rebirth

One year later.

The penthouse office of Vance Technologies in Manhattan buzzed with energy. The company stock had tripled. The hostile takeover had been crushed, and Elena and Marcus were currently serving twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole.

The heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom opened.

Alexander Vance walked in. He leaned heavily on a custom titanium cane, his gait slow and deliberate, but he was walking. The physical therapy had been brutal, but the fire inside him refused to be extinguished.

The board members stood up and applauded as he took his seat at the head of the table.

Sitting directly to his right wasn't a corporate shark or a greedy CFO. It was Rosa Ramirez.

She wore a tailored designer suit, holding a tablet with his daily schedule. Alexander had paid for her to attend night classes in business administration, promoting her to his Chief of Staff. She was the only person in the world he trusted implicitly.

"What's the first order of business, Rosa?" Alexander asked, his voice strong, clear, and commanding.

"The Vance Foundation for Neurological Research," Rosa smiled warmly. "The paperwork is ready for your signature. And Sofia’s private school called; she got an A on her science project about insects."

Alexander smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached his eyes. He signed the billion-dollar philanthropic document without hesitation.

They had tried to bury him in the dark, but they had forgotten one fundamental truth about Alexander Vance. He didn't just survive the darkness.

He owned the light.
