Chapter 2 - The Midnight Alliance

The news of Alexander Vance's miraculous awakening was strictly contained. Dr. Evans knew something was wrong. Wives of dying men usually fell to their knees in joy when a miracle happened; Elena had looked like a cornered viper.
At 2:00 AM, the ICU was quiet again. Elena and Marcus had been forced to leave, claiming they needed to "contact their legal team."
Dr. Evans stood by the bed with Rosa. He looked at the exhausted cleaning woman. "You were in here when it happened. You and your daughter."
"We didn't mean to trespass, Doctor," Rosa whispered frantically. "Sofia just wanted to show him the ladybug. Please don't fire me."
"Fire you?" Evans breathed. "Rosa, whatever your daughter did, it broke through a four-year neurological wall. But I need your help. When his wife was in here... did you see her face?"
"She looked like she had seen a ghost," Rosa said, her maternal instincts recognizing the danger. "She looked angry."
Alexander blinked twice rapidly. Yes.
Evans pulled up a white dry-erase board. He wrote out the alphabet. "Alexander, I am going to point to letters. Blink twice when I hit the right one."
It took twenty agonizing minutes. Alexander’s eyelids were heavy, his stamina incredibly low. But letter by letter, a word formed on the whiteboard.

Rosa crossed herself. Dr. Evans's blood ran cold. The billionaire wasn't just waking up; he was trapped in a cage with his executioners.
