Chapter 20 - The Legacy of Love

Three years later, the sunlit nursery of the Thorne triplex penthouse was filled with the soft, melodic sound of a lullaby playing from a wooden mobile.
Clara sat in a plush rocking chair by the window, holding their two-month-old daughter, Sophia Eleanor Thorne, securely against her chest.
The baby had Gabriel’s dark, thick hair and Clara’s warm, expressive eyes, fast asleep in a bundle of soft pink cashmere blankets.
The nursery door creaked open quietly, and Gabriel walked in, wearing his pajama bottoms and a loose white t-shirt after a long day at the firm.
He walked over to the rocking chair, dropping to one knee beside them, his eyes softening with an overwhelming, worshipful devotion as he looked at his wife and daughter.
“She finally fell asleep?” Gabriel whispered, reaching out with a gentle finger to stroke the baby's tiny, chubby cheek.
“Just now,” Clara smiled, leaning her head toward him so Gabriel could press a tender, lingering kiss against her temple.
Lucas, now a healthy, thriving junior at Columbia University, called out from the living room down the hall, announcing he had arrived with Friday night pizza.
Gabriel laughed softly, wrapping his arm around Clara’s shoulders and pulling her close as they looked out over the glittering expanse of Central Park below.
“Do you ever think about that night at the Carlyle, Clara?” Gabriel asked quietly, his hand resting over hers where she held their sleeping daughter.
“Every single day, Gabriel,” she murmured, looking down at the five-carat diamond ring that caught the soft nursery light.
“You made me the most outrageous, arrogant proposal I had ever heard in my life.”
Gabriel smiled, his dark eyes shining with endless love and gratitude for the woman who had saved his soul from a lifetime of loneliness.

“It was the best bargain I ever struck, Clara,” Gabriel whispered, kissing her lips softly in the quiet sanctuary of their home. “And I would pay a billion dollars all over again just to spend one night with you.”
What was your favorite moment in Gabriel and Clara's journey from a hostile contract to a genuine, loving family?
