Chapter 4 - A New Legacy

Within two weeks, I officially registered my new LLC: Apex Freight & Logistics.
I set up a temporary command center in my dining room, surrounded by whiteboards and laptops.
My first phone call was to Robert Vance, the largest regional distributor of medical supplies.
He was Sterling Logistics’ biggest client, and I had personally managed his account for seven years.
“Sarah, I’ve been trying to reach you,” Robert said the moment he answered.
“Your sister sent a team of junior reps to my office yesterday, and they didn't even know our shipping codes.”
“I’m no longer with Sterling, Robert,” I explained calmly.
“I’ve started my own firm, and I have the fleet capacity to handle your entire operation by Friday.”
“Send me the contract,” he said without a second of hesitation.
“I do business with you, Sarah, not with a logo on a building.”
By the end of the month, five more major clients had jumped ship to join Apex.
My children watched me work with wide, proud eyes, helping me organize files after they finished their homework.
I made sure to eat dinner with them every single night, no matter how busy the business got.
We didn't sit at folding tables near the kitchen anymore; we sat right at the center of our own dining room.
Meanwhile, industry rumors confirmed that Sterling Logistics was bleeding cash at an unprecedented rate.
