Chapter 6 - The Domino Effect

The fallout was instantaneous. By noon the next day, Isabella Vargas’s world was crumbling.
Marcus had made good on his threat. Using a proxy server, he sent the Vargas's true financial portfolio to the syndicate holding their debt, along with a note that Isabella was trying to flee the country.
We sat in the war room, watching the chaos unfold on social media and society blogs. Isabella’s credit lines were frozen. Two of her sister’s luxury cars were repossessed in broad daylight at a country club. Panic was setting in.
“She’s scrambling,” I said, watching a video of Isabella shouting at a bank manager that had gone viral on Twitter.

“She’s a cornered animal,” Marcus corrected. “And animals bite when they’re trapped. We need to be ready. She knows Chloe still has the deed. She’s going to try one last desperate play to get it.”
“Let her try,” Chloe said from the doorway. She was dressed in sharp, casual clothes, the bruised bride replaced by a survivor. “I want to be there when she falls.”
