Chapter 15 - A New Beginning

One year later.

The sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a golden hue across the balcony of the Miami villa. I stood at the railing, holding a glass of wine, listening to the rhythmic crashing of the waves.

Chloe walked out, looking radiant. The bruises were long gone, and the light had returned to her eyes. She had started a new job, entirely on her own merits, and was thriving.

“Dad’s firing up the grill,” Chloe smiled, handing me a plate of appetizers.

I looked back through the glass doors. Marcus was in the kitchen, expertly flipping steaks, completely at ease in the civilian clothes he wore. We hadn't remarried, but we had found a new, profound friendship forged in the fires of protecting our daughter. We were a family again, stronger than we had ever been.

“How are you feeling, sweetie?” I asked, brushing a lock of hair from her face.

Chloe looked out at the ocean, a serene smile on her lips. “I feel safe, Mom. For the first time in a long time, I feel completely free.”

The Vargas family had tried to break her to steal her sanctuary. Instead, they had given her back her family, and taught her exactly how unbreakable she truly was.
