Chapter 11 - The Creditors Call

When the syndicate realized the deed was flagged by the feds and completely worthless, they didn’t call their lawyers. They called their enforcers.

We heard the news through Marcus’s police scanner. An anonymous tip reported a home invasion at the Vargas estate. Black SUVs had pulled up, and armed men had dragged two of Isabella’s sisters out into the street, demanding to know where the money was.

Mateo, the coward he was, didn't stay to protect his family.

Traffic cameras caught his Porsche speeding toward the private airstrip on the outskirts of the city. He had packed his bags and was abandoning his mother to the wolves she had invited to the table.

“He’s making a run for it,” Marcus said, grabbing his tactical jacket. “He’s trying to catch a charter flight to a non-extradition country.”

“Are you going to stop him?” I asked.

“No,” Marcus said, checking the magazine of his sidearm out of pure habit. “I’m going to delay him just long enough for the authorities to get there. You and Chloe stay here.”
