Chapter 10 - The Legal Warfare

The Vanguard boardroom was a massive, imposing space with a fifty-foot mahogany table. When Julian pushed the double doors open, the entire board of directors was already seated. Richard Sterling sat at the head of the table, a smug smile plastered across his face.

"Julian," Richard sneered. "So glad you could join us for your own execution. The motion for a vote of no confidence is already on the table. Your erratic behavior, missing the Apex merger, and the police currently swarming our lobby have proven you are unfit to lead."

Julian slowly walked around the table, his presence commanding the room. He didn't look defeated; he looked like a shark smelling blood.

"Before we vote," Julian said, tossing a thick manila folder onto the center of the table. "I think the board should review the contents of that file."

One of the older board members, Henderson, opened the folder. His face drained of color.

"What is this?" Henderson gasped.

"That," Julian said, leaning over the table, "is a detailed account of Richard Sterling’s offshore bank accounts. Over the last three years, Richard has embezzled forty million dollars from our R&D department, funneling it through shell companies in the Caymans."

Richard stood up, his chair scraping violently against the floor. "That’s a lie! That’s a fabrication to save your job!"

"I don't fabricate, Richard. I destroy," Julian replied coldly. "The FBI has already received a copy of that file. They will be waiting for you in the parking garage. As for the Apex merger, I finalized the deal via a private conference call at 6:00 AM this morning. The stock is already up twelve percent."

The boardroom erupted into frantic whispers. Richard looked around, realizing his coup had just collapsed in spectacular fashion.

"You think you've won?" Richard spat, his face purple with rage. "You're harboring fugitive kids, Julian! The press will eat you alive!"

"Let them try," Julian whispered.
