Elena Vance, meanwhile, was singing.
In her efforts to avoid a decades-long prison sentence, she had provided the prosecution with a complete breakdown of how Marcus had funneled money through their accounts. She gave them dates, times, and signatures.
I sat in the observation room as her lawyer argued for a plea deal.
“General Miller,” the prosecutor said, joining me. “She’s giving us everything. Is this sufficient?”
“It’s sufficient for the conviction,” I said. “But I want the money returned. Every cent.”
“We’re trying,” he assured me. “But offshore accounts are notoriously difficult to—"
“I have the routing numbers,” I handed him a drive. “Marcus was sloppy. He kept the ledgers in his nightstand. All you need to do is trigger the clawback.”
