Chapter 3 - The General’s Return

While the house was being cleared, I signaled for my aide, Captain Evans, to approach. The transition from 'neglected wife' to 'General Sarah Miller' was more than just a change of clothes—it was a reclamation of my identity.

“General,” Evans said, handing me a secure tablet. “The Pentagon has been briefed on the situation. The Chief of Staff is requesting a sit-down. They are less than thrilled that your cover was blown by an internal domestic dispute.”

“I’ll handle the brass,” I replied. “For now, get the forensics team to find the hidden accounts. I know Marcus wasn’t just embezzling; he was laundering money for offshore contractors.”

Marcus overheard me and turned pale. “You’re going to destroy my career, aren't you?”

“I’m going to make sure you never handle a cent of anyone else's money again,” I corrected.

The neighborhood was now crawling with onlookers. Neighbors who had whispered about me being a ‘burden’ were now watching in stunned silence as a brigadier general dismantled the Thorne dynasty. The dynamic had shifted; I was no longer the outsider looking in. I was the architect of their new, harsh reality.
