Chapter 4 - The Custody War

By afternoon, the legal proceedings had moved to the county courthouse. Marcus had retained a high-priced attorney, but he hadn't accounted for the fact that I wasn't just a scorned wife—I was a decorated officer with a top-tier legal team provided by the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) office.
The hearing was brief. The judge, having been presented with the evidence of Marcus’s attempt to defraud me and his blatant neglect, didn't even hesitate.
“Mr. Thorne,” the judge said, peering over his spectacles. “The court finds the dissolution request based on the premise of your wife's ‘unfitness’ to be laughable. Furthermore, the evidence regarding your financial impropriety suggests you are not in a position to request anything. Temporary full custody is granted to General Miller.”

“Yes, I have,” I said, rising to stand beside my legal team. “I spent years planning to be a good wife. You’re just angry that I spent the last three days planning your downfall.”
