Chapter 4 - The Escape

"He wasn't just building a harmless social media empire and an advertising network; he was meticulously cataloging the private, intimate details of millions of global citizens," Matthew continued firmly.

Julian rapidly ripped the plastic off the folder and began flipping frantically through the dense pages, his highly trained, analytical eyes easily scanning the endless rows of complex transaction codes.

"He was illegally selling our proprietary customer data, direct backdoor access points, and live location tracking metrics to entirely unvetted foreign intelligence brokers," Matthew elaborated, his voice echoing clearly in the quiet space.

Julian felt a cold, terrifying sweat break out across his forehead as he instantly recognized the routing numbers of notorious offshore shell companies completely linked to hostile state actors.

"Mom found out about the operation entirely accidentally when she was reviewing the quarterly philanthropic budgets and noticed massive, unexplainable discrepancies in the server cooling costs," Matthew said.

"She confronted him furiously the night before the flight, threatening to hand absolutely everything over to the Department of Defense if he didn't step down immediately and turn himself in."

Julian slowly looked up from the damning, terrifying documents, his eyes locking intensely onto the man he had idolized, deeply respected, and completely obeyed for his entire life.

Charles Cross stood silently in the dim, flickering light of the shelter, looking directly at the folder in Julian's hands with an expression of pure, unadulterated corporate venom.

He didn't attempt to deny the horrific accusations, nor did he beg for forgiveness or try to spin another complex web of corporate lies.

Instead, Charles took a slow, highly calculated step closer to his youngest son, his posture radiating a terrifying, violent, and desperate intensity.

"You need to think very, very carefully about what happens next, Julian," Charles warned quietly, his voice a low, raspy threat that promised absolute destruction.

"If those classified documents see the light of day, it won't just be me who goes down in flames and goes to federal prison."

Charles leaned heavily on his polished silver cane, pointing a gloved, trembling finger directly at Julian’s chest.

"The federal government will completely dismantle Cross Technologies, the stock will instantly drop to absolute zero, and tens of thousands of our innocent employees will lose their livelihoods overnight."

"You will be completely financially ruined, Julian, and the entire world will forever remember our family as nothing but a dynasty of greedy traitors."

Julian looked around the crowded, freezing shelter, actively making eye contact with the desperate, shivering people who were watching the billionaire family drama unfold in real time.

He looked at the highly nervous, whispering shelter volunteers, the loyal corporate employees waiting anxiously by the doors, and the news crew that was practically vibrating with anticipation just a few feet away.

Julian realized in that singular, defining moment that true leadership was not about protecting immense wealth, preserving a false family legacy, or hiding behind corporate immunity.

True leadership was about completely burning away the internal rot, no matter how much the cleansing fire burned your own hands in the painful process.

Julian aggressively turned his back on his father and looked directly at the lead cameraman from the local television news network.

He raised his hand high into the air and snapped his fingers loudly, an authoritative, commanding gesture that demanded immediate, absolute compliance.

"Turn the cameras back on right now," Julian ordered loudly, his voice echoing powerfully across the cavernous, brick-walled room.

The eager cameraman didn't hesitate this time, instantly hoisting the heavy recording rig onto his shoulder and flipping the bright, blinding LED spotlight back to life.

The red recording indicator blinked furiously, instantly beaming a live, entirely unedited feed directly to hundreds of thousands of televisions across the storm-ravaged city of Seattle.

Charles’s face immediately drained of all remaining color, a look of genuine, primal panic finally flashing across his cold, aristocratic features.

"Julian, stop this absolute madness right now!" Charles hissed through perfectly clenched teeth, attempting to step forward and physically block the camera lens.

Julian swiftly stepped perfectly into his father’s path, using his broader, younger frame to completely block the older man from interfering with the broadcast.

He looked directly into the camera lens, his expression a perfect mask of absolute, unbreakable resolve and truth.

"My name is Julian Cross, and I am the current Chief Executive Officer of Cross Technologies," Julian announced clearly, making absolutely sure his voice didn't waver.

"For the past ten years, I was told a false narrative that my beloved older brother, Matthew Cross, had abandoned our family after a tragic accident."

"I was also told that my mother died in a terrible, unavoidable tragedy completely caused by severe weather over the state of Alaska."

Julian paused briefly, taking a deep, steadying breath as the sheer magnitude of what he was about to do settled heavily onto his shoulders.

"Tonight, I have uncovered irrefutable, undeniable proof that those tragic stories were elaborate, malicious lies completely fabricated by my own father."

The entire shelter grew completely, impossibly silent, the only sound being the howling wind aggressively rattling the frosted windowpanes.

Julian pointed a shaking, highly accusatory finger directly at the terrified man standing beside him.

"Charles Cross directly orchestrated the sabotage of a private aircraft to intentionally murder my mother."

"He systematically stole my brother's legitimate corporate shares and locked him away in highly abusive psychiatric facilities to permanently silence him."

"And he committed these horrific atrocities to completely cover up his own massive, treasonous operation of selling highly classified, private user data to foreign intelligence brokers."

Flashbulbs immediately erupted violently from the smartphones of dozens of shelter volunteers who were now live-streaming the unprecedented corporate confession to the entire world.

Charles took a rapid, stumbling step backward, raising his heavy silver cane defensively as if preparing to strike his own son in front of the cameras.

"This is a complete psychotic break!" Charles shouted desperately to the recording reporters, his carefully cultivated voice cracking with sheer panic.

"My sons are both deeply, fundamentally unwell and they are in need of immediate, involuntary medical intervention before they destroy the company!"

Matthew let out a dry, hauntingly bitter laugh from the depths of his rusted, squeaking wheelchair.

"The black box flight recorder doesn't have a psychotic break, Dad," Matthew declared loudly.

Matthew raised the battered, scorched device high into the air for the television cameras to perfectly capture in stunning high definition.

"We have your exact voice on tape giving the pilot the direct order to intentionally crash the plane."

Two of Charles’s massive, heavily armed private security guards suddenly stepped out from the shadows near the entrance, reaching their hands ominously inside their tailored suit jackets.
