Chapter 19 - A New Dawn

It was a crisp, bright autumn morning.
I walked into a bustling downtown coffee shop. Maya was sitting at a corner table, typing furiously on her laptop, wearing a sharp blazer and a bright, genuine smile.
"Hey, Dad!" she beamed, closing the laptop as I sat down.
"How's the new job treating you?" I asked, sipping my black coffee.
Maya had finally landed her dream job as a senior project manager at a top tech firm—the very job she had been buying shoes for on that terrible, freezing night.
"It’s amazing," she said, her eyes shining with life. "They actually listen to my ideas. And I’m running a team of ten people. It’s challenging, but I love it."
"I’m so proud of you, Maya," I said softly. "You built a beautiful life out of the ashes."

"I just kicked down a door," I smiled. "You’re the one who walked through it."
