Chapter 18 - The Aftermath

In the months that followed, the final pieces of Julian’s toxic legacy were swept away.

Eleanor accepted a plea deal for the restraining order violation and the attempted burglary. She was sentenced to three years in a minimum-security state facility. Arthur, unable to cope with the shame and poverty, moved to a trailer park two states over and cut off all contact with his family. Chloe vanished into obscurity, working a minimum-wage retail job, forever haunted by the internet fame she had so desperately craved.

The holding company that owned the estate officially transferred the title fully into Maya’s name, completely unencumbered by any legal ties to Julian.

We sold the estate. Maya couldn't bear to live in the house where she had suffered so much. The sale brought in a massive sum of money, which Maya used to buy a beautiful, light-filled penthouse in the city and to establish a substantial legal defense fund for victims of domestic financial abuse.

I officially retired from everything. No more consulting, no more audits. I spent my days fishing, reading, and watching my daughter bloom into the incredible woman she was always meant to be.
