Chapter 14 - The Proposal

Julian walked out into the grass, not caring that his custom suit was getting soaked by the sprinklers. The boys cheered and tackled his legs. Clara stopped, wiping water from her eyes, and smiled brightly at him.

“You’re ruining a five-thousand-dollar suit, Mr. Rossi,” she teased.

“I’ve wasted more on less,” Julian said, his eyes locking onto hers. He knelt down in the wet grass, right in the middle of the lawn, pulling a velvet box from his pocket.

Clara gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.

“Clara Bianchi,” Julian said, his voice carrying over the sound of the water and the boys’ giggles. “You brought my family back to life. You gave my sons a mother, and you gave me a soul. I don't want you as my employee. I want you as my wife, my partner, and the queen of this family. Will you marry me?”

Tears streamed down Clara’s face. She didn't hesitate. She dropped to her knees in the mud right in front of him.

The boys cheered, piling on top of them in a wet, muddy, joyful heap.
