Chapter 18

"It’s over, Dante," Julian’s voice echoed off the damp walls, cold and unyielding.

Dante stepped out from behind the pillar, his hands shaking violently, holding a pistol aimed directly at Elias’s head.

"Back off!" Dante screamed, his eyes wide with madness. "I’ll blow his brains out, I swear to God!"

Elias looked up at Julian, a bloody grin on his face. "Do it, boss. Don't let this rat win."

Julian didn't raise his rifle; he simply stood perfectly still, his eyes locked on Dante.

"You really think you hold the cards here?" Julian asked softly.

Dante laughed hysterically. "I have the gun to his head! I win!"

"You forgot something, Dante," a soft voice whispered directly behind him.

Dante’s blood ran cold.

He had been so focused on Julian that he hadn't tracked the ghost’s movements in the shadows.

Before Dante could turn, Elara drove the hilt of her combat knife viciously into the nerve cluster at the base of his neck.

Dante’s arm went entirely numb, the pistol dropping harmlessly to the floor.

Elara grabbed him by the collar, sweeping his legs out from under him, and slammed him face-first into the concrete.

She placed her boot firmly between his shoulder blades, pinning him like a slaughtered pig.

Julian walked over calmly and untied Elias, helping his underboss to his feet.

"You took your time," Elias grumbled, rubbing his raw wrists.

"We had to enjoy the scenery," Julian replied dryly.
