Chapter 6 - The Gathering Storm

Noah’s replies became my only source of sanity in the terrifying silence of the house.
He informed me that he had contacted a high-profile domestic abuse attorney named Sarah.
Sarah was ruthless, experienced, and completely unfazed by Garrett’s massive wealth and political connections.
"She says we need hard evidence of his financial control and physical abuse," Noah texted one afternoon.
"The medical records from the broken arm are a start, but Garrett will claim it was a tragic accident."
"We need proof that he is locking you in, tracking your movements, or hiding money."
I read the message and felt a sudden surge of terrifying determination.
Garrett kept all of his private financial documents in a heavy steel safe inside his home office.
The office was strictly off-limits to me, a rule enforced by severe emotional and physical punishments.
But I had lived with the man for two years, and I knew his arrogant habits better than anyone.
He believed he was untouchable, which meant he was fundamentally careless.
I knew he kept a spare key to the office hidden inside a hollowed-out book on the library shelf.
I also knew the code to the safe was the exact date he had closed his first million-dollar real estate deal.
He was a narcissist who worshipped his own success above all else.

I texted Noah back immediately.
"I can get his financial records," I promised. "I just need him to leave the house for more than an hour."
