Chapter 5 - The Silent Observer

The next three days were a masterclass in psychological torture.

Garrett played the role of the devoted husband to absolute perfection.

He hired a private chef to cook all my meals, ensuring I received the proper nutrition for the baby.

He bought me expensive silk pajamas and read books about fatherhood in the armchair across from the bed.

But beneath the charming facade, his eyes were always watching me, calculating and cold.

He was waiting for me to break, waiting for me to show a sign of rebellion or anger.

I remembered Noah’s strict instructions and swallowed my pride entirely.

I thanked him for the meals, smiled when he touched my stomach, and apologized profusely for my "clumsiness."

It made me sick to my stomach, but the act was my only armor.

During the day, while he was at his corporate office, I carefully explored the house.

I had always suspected he was monitoring me, but I needed absolute proof.

Using the reflection of my compact mirror, I checked the smoke detectors in the living room and hallways.

Inside the tiny vents of the devices, I spotted the faint, sinister glint of hidden camera lenses.

He had been watching my every move, recording my isolation for his own sick satisfaction.

I quickly returned to the bedroom, the only room I knew was safe because Garrett valued his own privacy.

I pulled out the burner phone and updated Noah on the surveillance system.

"He is watching the common areas," I texted. "I cannot leave the house without him knowing."
