Chapter 16 - The Crumbling Empire

I sat in the back of an ambulance, wrapped in a thick, warm blanket.

Noah sat beside me, holding my good hand tightly, tears streaming down his face.

"You did it, El. You are safe now," he whispered repeatedly.

I watched through the ambulance window as Garrett was forcefully shoved into the back of a police cruiser.

His expensive pajamas were covered in mud and snow, his face twisted in absolute fury and defeat.

He locked eyes with me through the glass, but the terrifying spell he held over me was completely broken.

He was no longer a powerful giant; he was just a pathetic, abusive man sitting in handcuffs.

The police officers had already secured his home office, bagging his computers and financial files as extreme evidence.

Sarah, my ruthless attorney, arrived on the scene wearing a sharp trench coat, looking entirely victorious.

"We have everything we need, Elena," Sarah said, leaning into the ambulance.

"The judge signed the emergency restraining order, and all of his financial assets have been completely frozen."

"His company is going to be investigated by the FBI by morning."

I leaned my head against Noah’s shoulder, finally letting out a massive, exhausting breath.

The empire Garrett had used to completely control me was burning to the ground in spectacular fashion.

And I was finally entirely free from the flames.
