Chapter 6 - A Desperate Warning

Clara didn’t wait for morning. She slipped out of her suite, bypassing the sleeping guards by using the servant corridors she had memorized during her cleaning shifts. She practically ran to the east wing, where Julian’s private chambers were located.
She bypassed the perimeter security with a stolen keycard, bursting into Julian’s bedroom.
Julian was awake in an instant, a suppressed pistol aimed directly at the door before his eyes even adjusted to the dark. When he saw Clara standing there, breathless and trembling, he lowered the weapon.
“Are you out of your mind?” he growled, throwing off the heavy duvet. He was wearing only dark sleep pants, the intricate tattoos of his syndicate crawling across his scarred chest.
“It’s Vance,” Clara gasped, ignoring the gun. “He’s working for Romanov. I heard him through the vents. He’s going to feed you false locations to keep you away from Lily until your sons die.”
Julian’s expression turned into a mask of pure, terrifying ice. Betrayal within his inner circle was the ultimate sin. He didn't question her. He didn't ask for proof. He saw the raw, desperate truth in her eyes.
“Get dressed in something dark,” Julian commanded, walking into his massive walk-in closet to retrieve a tactical vest and two assault rifles. “We are not waiting for Vance to feed us intel. We are going straight to the source.”

“You’re bringing me?” Clara asked, stunned.
“You know what your daughter looks like,” Julian replied, tossing her a heavy Kevlar jacket. “And I do not trust leaving you in this house with a traitor.”
