Chapter 12 - The Penthouse Assault

With the estate secured, Julian gathered his entire tactical force. Fifty heavily armed, highly trained enforcers piled into black SUVs. They were no longer operating in the shadows; they were going to war in the daylight.
The Romanov penthouse was located in a luxury high-rise in the Gold Coast. Julian didn't bother with stealth. He bought off the building manager in sixty seconds flat, securing total access to the service elevators and the camera systems.
“You stay in the command vehicle,” Julian told Clara, handing her a bulletproof vest. “I will bring her to you.”
“No,” Clara said firmly, strapping the vest on. “She is my daughter. I have waited a year for this. I am walking through those doors with you.”
Julian looked into her fierce, determined eyes. He realized then that he didn't just respect Clara Hayes; he was deeply, profoundly captivated by her. He nodded. “Stay behind my shield.”
The elevator doors chimed, opening onto the top floor. Romanov’s guards were caught completely off guard. Julian’s team flooded the hallway, breaching the heavy oak doors of the penthouse with military-grade explosives.
The gunfire was deafening. The luxury apartment was torn to shreds by automatic fire, expensive art and crystal shattering into dust. Julian moved like a machine, taking down hostiles with lethal precision, carving a bloody path toward the back rooms.

Victor Romanov emerged from a bedroom, holding a submachine gun. “Moretti!” he screamed.
Julian didn't hesitate. He fired three shots, center mass. The rival boss crumpled to the floor, his reign ending in a pool of blood on his own expensive rug.
