Chapter 10 - Blood in the Dark

David scoffed, aiming for Julian’s chest. But he underestimated the speed of a syndicate boss backed into a corner.
Before David could pull the trigger, Clara snatched a rusted iron pipe from the floor and swung it with every ounce of strength in her body. The pipe cracked against David’s wrist, shattering bone. The gun clattered to the concrete.
David screamed, falling to his knees. Julian didn't hesitate. He crossed the room in two massive strides, grabbing David by the throat and lifting him off the ground, slamming him against a steel support beam.
“Where is the little girl?” Julian demanded, his voice a demonic growl.
“Go to hell!” David spat.
Julian drove a brutal punch into David’s ribs, the sound of bone snapping echoing in the warehouse. “My sons are dying. I will peel your skin off an inch at a time if you do not tell me where she is.”
David gasped for air, his eyes wide with terror as he looked into the eyes of a true monster. “She’s not on the boat! She’s at the Romanov safehouse in the Gold Coast! The penthouse!”
Julian dropped David to the floor. Clara walked forward, looking down at the pathetic man she once called her husband. She picked up his fallen gun, her hands shaking, and aimed it at his chest.

“Clara, no,” Julian said softly, placing a gentle hand over the barrel. “You are not a killer. Do not carry this weight. Let me.”
Julian raised his own weapon and fired a single shot. David Hayes fell silent. Clara buried her face in Julian’s chest, sobbing not for the loss of her husband, but for the freedom from her nightmare.
