Chapter 19 - The Syndicate's End

The transition was not without its challenges, but Julian’s reputation ensured it was swift. The rival families, terrified by the ruthless efficiency with which Julian had dismantled the Romanov Bratva, gladly accepted the new peace treaties. The Moretti name became synonymous with untouchable corporate power, rather than street-level bloodshed.

Clara took over the estate’s management, not as a cleaner, but as the lady of the house. The staff who had once sneered at her broken shoes now bowed their heads in deep, genuine respect. They saw the way Julian looked at her—like she was the sun that kept his world in orbit.

One evening, Julian took Clara out to the private terrace overlooking the sprawling, manicured gardens. The sun was setting over Chicago, casting a golden hue over the city he had finally tamed.

“I brought you out here for a reason,” Julian said, his voice unusually nervous.

Clara turned around, a teasing smile on her lips. “Did Luca break another antique vase?”

Julian laughed softly, shaking his head. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He didn't drop to one knee—he had already done that once before her, in a hospital hallway—but he stepped close, taking her hand in his.

“Clara, you walked into a monster’s lair to save your daughter, and in doing so, you saved my entire life. You gave me my sons. You gave me my soul back.” He opened the box, revealing a breathtaking, flawless diamond ring. “I want to give you everything else. Marry me.”

Clara’s eyes filled with happy tears. She looked at the man who had burned down the world for her, and she smiled. “Yes, Julian. Absolutely, yes.”
