Chapter 8 - The Courtroom Drama

The day of the trial finally arrived, and the courtroom was packed to the absolute brim with reporters and curious spectators.
I sat in the front row holding Emma’s hand, projecting an aura of untouchable strength and confidence.
Julian was led into the courtroom wearing handcuffs and a completely defeated expression.
He looked pale, exhausted, and terrifyingly thin after spending a month in the brutal county jail system.
The prosecutor, a ruthless woman who had never lost a high-profile case, presented the security footage to the jury.
The crisp, high-definition video of Julian dropping the necklace into Emma’s pocket played on massive screens.
The jury gasped in unison as they watched the heavy brass easel crash down onto my innocent child’s head.
Julian’s court-appointed public defender tried to argue that it was a terrible accident caused by a panic attack.
The defense attorney desperately claimed that Julian was suffering from temporary insanity due to gambling stress.
But Beatrice took the witness stand and completely destroyed any remaining shred of sympathy the jury might have held.
She testified about his massive debts, his manipulative lies, and his cruel history of deflecting blame onto innocent people.
“He didn't just steal my family’s legacy; he almost killed a little girl to save his own skin,” Beatrice stated through genuine tears.
Julian stared at the floor, unable to even make eye contact with the woman he had promised to marry.
When it was my turn to take the stand, I didn't cry or beg for sympathy from the jury.
I spoke with cold, calculated precision, describing the terror of seeing my child bleeding on the floor.
“Julian Montgomery is a predator who preys on the innocent to cover his own pathetic failures,” I declared loudly.

The jury didn't even need to deliberate for more than forty-five minutes.
They returned to the courtroom with a unanimous verdict that sealed Julian’s fate forever.
