Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape Attempt

Two weeks before the criminal trial was set to begin, Julian realized he was going to lose everything.

His high-priced defense attorney had officially quit after realizing Julian could not pay his legal fees.

His bank accounts were frozen by federal authorities investigating his massive gambling fraud.

Julian was a cornered animal, and cornered animals always make incredibly stupid decisions.

My head of security, a former Special Forces operator named Marcus, intercepted a crucial piece of information.

“Ms. Sterling, Julian just purchased a one-way bus ticket to the Mexican border under a fake name,” Marcus reported.

Julian was actually trying to flee the country to avoid facing justice for what he did to my daughter.

“Let him get on the bus,” I ordered, a cold and calculating smile spreading across my face.

“But make sure the highway patrol knows exactly which vehicle he is sitting on.”

Marcus nodded, immediately picking up his secure radio to coordinate the interception with local law enforcement.

I wanted Julian to feel a fleeting moment of hope before it was violently snatched away from him.

Hours later, Julian was sitting in the back of a dirty Greyhound bus, staring out the window as they approached the border.

He probably thought he had outsmarted the system and escaped the wrath of Claire Sterling.

Suddenly, five heavily armed police cruisers swarmed the bus, forcing the massive vehicle to pull over onto the dusty shoulder.

Officers stormed the aisle with their weapons drawn, screaming Julian’s fake alias at the top of their lungs.

They dragged him off the bus in front of fifty terrified passengers, slamming him onto the hot asphalt.

Because he attempted to flee the jurisdiction while out on bail, the judge instantly revoked his freedom.

Julian was thrown into maximum security county jail, wearing a bright orange jumpsuit instead of a tailored tuxedo.

He would remain behind bars until the trial, stripped of his wealthy comforts and his arrogant pride.
