Chapter 5 - The Corporate Strike

By noon, Emma was officially discharged from the hospital with a clean bill of health.
I brought her home to our heavily secured penthouse, surrounded by an army of private guards and loving nannies.
Once she was settled in her playroom with a mountain of new toys, I went into my home office.
It was time to execute the professional assassination of Julian Montgomery.
I opened my laptop and joined a video conference with the board of directors from his investment firm.
The CEO of the firm looked incredibly nervous, sweating profusely in his expensive suit.
“Ms. Sterling, we had no idea about the eviction notice until this morning,” the CEO pleaded.
“Julian Montgomery is a liability to your company, and his criminal actions have stained your reputation,” I stated firmly.
“If you want to keep your office space and your corporate standing, you will terminate him immediately.”
The CEO didn't even hesitate to throw Julian under the proverbial bus to save his own sinking ship.
“Consider him fired with cause, effective immediately,” the CEO agreed rapidly.
“Furthermore, you will release a public statement condemning his actions and distancing your firm from him.”
The board unanimously agreed, terrified of facing the full financial wrath of Sterling Real Estate.
Julian was officially unemployed, completely disgraced, and permanently blacklisted from the financial industry.
But I wasn't finished tearing down his carefully constructed house of cards.
I called Beatrice, who was currently hiding in her parents' mansion to avoid the media circus.
“Beatrice, this is Claire Sterling,” I said when she answered the phone.
“I know Julian stole from you, and I am willing to offer you the best legal representation in the state to sue him.”
Beatrice burst into tears, thanking me profusely for my unexpected generosity.

He was completely surrounded by enemies, and the walls were rapidly closing in on him.
