Chapter 7 - The Waiting Game

The night felt endless, the grand house suffocatingly quiet without Constantine's heavy presence.
Josie sat in the nursery, watching Mila sleep, the child's chest rising and falling in peaceful rhythm.
Every time a car drove past the gates, Josie's heart leaped into her throat.
She prayed to a God she hadn't spoken to in years, asking for the safe return of a man who broke every commandment.

Josie sprinted down the staircase, throwing open the front doors before the bodyguards could stop her.

When he saw Josie standing on the porch, a weary smile broke through his harsh features.
He walked up the steps and pulled her into a fierce, desperate kiss.
It tasted like ash, rain, and raw relief.
