Two years later, the Voss estate was no longer a cold, imposing fortress.
Toys littered the manicured lawn, and the scent of baking bread constantly wafted from the open kitchen windows.
Josie stood on the back patio, resting a hand on her swollen, pregnant belly, watching the scene before her.
Constantine, the former terror of Boston's underworld, was currently wearing a plastic tiara.
He was hosting a tea party for Mila and her stuffed animals, pouring imaginary tea with absolute, deadly seriousness.
Liam walked out onto the patio, handing Josie a glass of sparkling cider.
"Who would have thought?" Liam chuckled, watching the terrifying mafia boss ask a teddy bear if it wanted one lump or two.
"Life is strange," Josie agreed, leaning her head against her brother's shoulder.
Constantine looked up, catching her eye across the sunlit yard.
He smiled—a full, genuine smile that reached his eyes and made him look remarkably young.
